The words of Kahlil speak to me with the utmost sincerity;

they tell me to allow the flow of an ocean

between me and you.

But lately, I've been empathizing

with the sand on the shore

that has been untouched by the purity of the ocean blue.

Every new 'hoosh'

makes me anticipate your arrival.

But, my castle has been sundried for too long

to be able to melt into your ocean any longer.

My grains are now devoid

of the shimmery salt of your being.

And I've been busy swallowing the new shells

of my own discovery.

My mother dear,

it seems like you're always near.

'Cause even when you're not,

your calls constantly keep me on the mark!

Your bubbly dances and dramatic narratives

have now become part of my daily doses of serotonin.

And, as much as I run away from your joyous shrieks,

your hands will always remain the forms of comfort I seek.

I've noticed how you carry the weight of the world on your shoulders

as if you are the one and only standing soldier.

But I've also noticed the tiny moments of show

when you're truly yourself, whistling away to songs on the radio.

Those small windows of happiness,

are the ones I truly want to cherish.

So, I reach for my phone to record them for safekeeping,

and in return receive the "You're always on your phone!" scolding.

Your expression brings out my ugliest chuckle and I let the device go,

as you reach out to hug and make me a part of your ball-dancing row.

I hear you claim

that it doesn't matter whether or not you stay.

I hear your cries

explicitly describing all of your tries.

You think that you're invisible,

and all of your life's endeavours, disposable.

But you should know that you can see this through.

You should understand there is no one like you.

No one to arrange those books the way you do,

no one to make that perfect version of stew.

How will any of us do

without your jokes that crack up the entire room?

Those spontaneous polaroids cannot be left

to gather dust in some corner and rest.

You must stay around

to help your siblings through their various breakdowns.

These are just a few of the little things

that matter in life.

As for the 'big' ones, I promise

you'll take them all in a stride!
